Terms of Service · EU / EEA

Terms for EU and EEA consumers.

Last updated October 7, 2026

These terms apply if you use StoryCheck as a consumer living in the European Economic Area (EEA). They form part of our Terms of Service and take priority over them where the two differ. Nothing in these terms or in our Terms of Service removes or limits your statutory rights as a consumer under the EU Consumer Rights Directive (2011/83/EU), the Digital Content Directive ((EU) 2019/770), and the consumer protection laws of your country of residence.

Who you are contracting with

The service is provided by StoryCheck. You can contact us at support@storycheck.com or through our support page.

2

Acceptance of these terms

By creating an account, accepting these terms, or completing a purchase, you agree to these terms, our Terms of Service, and our Privacy Notice. If a translation of any StoryCheck page conflicts with the English version, the English version applies, unless the law of your country requires otherwise.

3

Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter into a binding contract to use StoryCheck.

4

The service and data accuracy

StoryCheck provides reports about a phone number, email address, or name as digital content, and access to membership features as a digital service. Reports compile information from your inputs, licensed data providers, and publicly available sources, and present possible matches, scores, and automatically generated summaries, not confirmed facts.

The underlying data may be incomplete, inaccurate, out of date, or about a different person. We do not independently verify it, and you should not rely on a result without checking it yourself. The service is for your personal, informational use only.
5

Acceptable use and your responsibilities

You may use StoryCheck only for lawful purposes. The prohibited uses in our Terms of Service apply to you. In particular, you may not:

  • stalk, harass, threaten, intimidate, defame, or dox anyone, or locate or contact a person who does not want contact with you;
  • use the service to make decisions about a person’s employment, housing, credit, insurance, or other eligibility;
  • search for minors or upload images of minors;
  • use information from the service for any unlawful purpose, or in breach of the data protection rights of anyone else;
  • resell, publish, redistribute, or scrape reports or data, or use them to build a database or train an AI model; or
  • upload images or data you do not have the right to share.

You may be a data controller

If you use StoryCheck to obtain personal data about other people for your own purposes, you may be a separate data controller under the GDPR and responsible for your own compliance, including having a lawful basis for your use.
6

Price and payment

The total price is shown at checkout before you pay, and it is the amount you are charged. Prices, currencies, trial lengths, and billing frequencies vary by location, and we may personalize prices by automated means based on your location and as part of pricing tests, so the price shown to you may differ from the price shown to others. The price shown at your checkout is the price that applies. Your bank may charge currency conversion fees if your card is in a different currency.

7

Trials, memberships, and automatic renewal

  • Trial and renewal. A membership starts with a 7-day trial for a trial fee. Unless you cancel before the trial ends, it automatically renews and your payment method is charged the renewal price every week or every month, as shown at checkout, until you cancel. In some markets the trial fee is collected as two charges, made one right after the other, that together equal the trial fee shown at checkout.
  • Cancelling. You can cancel online at any time in your account settings or at storycheck.com/cancel. If you cancel during the trial, your trial and access to membership features end straight away and you are not charged the renewal price. If you cancel during a paid period, your membership stays active until the end of that period and does not renew.
  • Failed payments. If a renewal payment fails, we may retry it and may pause your credits or access until it succeeds.
  • Price changes. We will tell you about a change to your membership price in advance. The new price applies only from a billing period that starts after our notice, and you can cancel before it applies.

Your right to cancel within 14 days

As a consumer in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have a statutory right to withdraw from this contract within 14 days of entering into it, without giving any reason, under the EU Consumer Rights Directive (2011/83/EU), the Digital Content Directive ((EU) 2019/770), and the consumer protection laws of your country of residence.

Reports and memberships start immediately, at your request

Reports. A report is digital content that we deliver immediately after checkout. By completing checkout, you ask us to deliver it immediately and acknowledge that you lose your right of withdrawal for that report once it has been delivered.

Memberships. Membership features are a digital service that starts immediately at your request. If you withdraw within 14 days, we will refund what you paid, less an amount proportionate to the service already provided up to the time you told us you were withdrawing, which includes any reports already delivered.

How to withdraw. Tell us clearly before the 14-day period ends, for example by emailing support@storycheck.com from the address on your account, or through our support page. You can use the model withdrawal form below, but you do not have to. It is enough to send your message before the 14 days end.

Refunds. If a refund is due, we will make it without undue delay and no later than 14 days after we receive your withdrawal notice, using the same payment method you used, at no cost to you.

If the service is faulty

These rights cannot be excluded

Under the Digital Content Directive and your national law, the digital content and services we supply must conform to the contract. If they do not, you are entitled to have them brought into conformity, and in certain cases to a proportionate price reduction or to end the contract. A report that contains little information, or information that turns out to be inaccurate because a third-party source was inaccurate, is not by itself faulty, because reports present possible matches from third-party sources as described above. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits your statutory rights.

11

Other refunds

Apart from your right of withdrawal and your statutory rights, charges for a report already delivered or for a billing period that has already started are not refundable, and we do not refund unused credits. This does not affect your statutory rights.

12

Automated systems and AI

We use automated systems, including AI, to handle most support and account requests and to write the summaries and insights in reports, as described in our Terms of Service. If you believe an automated reply or result is wrong, contact support@storycheck.com and we will look at it again.

13

Our liability to you

We do not exclude or limit our liability where it would be unlawful to do so. This includes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, for gross negligence or intent where the law of your country does not allow it to be limited, and for breach of your statutory consumer rights.

Subject to the above, we are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss or damage that was not foreseeable, for loss caused by relying on a result without checking it, for business losses, or for loss caused by using the service outside its personal, informational purpose.

14

Suspension and termination

We may suspend or end your access if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms or our Terms of Service, if your use creates a risk of harm or legal liability, or where the law requires. Where it is reasonable and lawful, we will give you notice and a chance to respond. If we end your membership for a reason other than your breach, we will refund the unused part of any period you have paid for.

15

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms, for example to reflect changes in the law or in the service. If a change materially affects you, we will tell you in advance, and you can cancel before it takes effect. Changes do not apply to purchases already made before the change takes effect.

16

Governing law and where you can bring a claim

You keep your home-country protections

You can bring proceedings in the courts of the EEA country where you live, and you always benefit from the mandatory consumer protection rules of that country. As a consumer, you are not required to arbitrate and you are not bound by any class action waiver. The arbitration and class action sections of our Terms of Service do not apply to you.

17

Complaints

Please contact us first at support@storycheck.com so we can try to resolve any complaint. If we cannot resolve it, you can contact the consumer protection authority or an alternative dispute resolution body in your country, or bring a claim in the courts described above.
